Summary: Alisan is totally wary of this guy Adam not only befriended but came to instill 100% trust in so fast... But after she and Kris somehow end up stuck together for a period of time (your call on how this goes down), she quickly comes to understand how/why.

Alisan crossed her arms and tried to see over all the tall people. She was waiting for Adam after coming to the LA stop on the Idol tour. The backstage area was crazy, bustling with people and energy - the kind of thing Alisan loved. But she wanted to see Adam.

The problem was, everyone else wanted to see him, too. This was close to his hometown, and he had a lot of family and friends there. It frustrated Alisan, but what could she do?

Her phone vibrated in her hand, letting her know she had a message:

Meet me out front. Come to the bus.

By the time Alisan found the elevator, she was sure it had taken so long that Adam was gone. Except, he wasn't.

She knew that because Kris was standing beside her, waiting for the elevator, too. When he spoke, he was breathless:

"I'm so sorry. I'm Kris. Adam's friend. We met before, I think. At one of the dinners after the show. Anyway, Adam asked me to find you and help you find the elevators, but I had no idea where they were, or where you were. I'm sorry," he apologized again.

"Hey. Don't be. I'm Alisan."

She didn't stick her hand out. She didn't say anything else. If she were perfectly honest, she was a little skeptical of this guy, Kris. She wasn't usually the jealous type, and it didn't really feel like jealousy at all. Just...well...protection, she guessed. She was feeling protective of Adam. He generally made acquaintances fast, but friends took a lot longer. She and Adam were both of the mind that a friendship was like a building. It took time and attention and care to build.

Alisan didn't really know how well Adam knew Kris - they hadn't even known each other a year. Or if Kris was really everything Adam said he was.

Sweet. Kind. Gentle. Humble. Passionate.

Those words could describe any number of people, but not someone that Adam would consider a close friend, and so quickly.

They stepped onto the elevator, and the doors closed. Kris hit the button for the bottom floor and they started to move. Alisan tapped her foot impatiently. Elevators were the worst because all anyone ever was thinking about is how bad they want to get where they're going, and how weird it is to be in such close proximity with a stranger and--

A sick clunking sound interrupted her thoughts.

Instinctively, Alisan moved to the corner and gripped the little railing. Kris barely blinked before stepping in front of her, bracing her body with his.

"What's happening?" she asked, willing her voice not to shake.

The elevator had ground to a halt, with their floor still lit up. The doors stayed closed. And she knew without confirmation, that they were in some kind of trouble.

"It's all right," Kris reassured her quietly. He reached over and pressed the alarm button on the panel, to alert someone that they were stuck.

--

It had been an hour and a half. Alisan had sunk down and was sitting in the corner, playing with her phone, trying to distract herself from the fact that she was trapped in a moving box with a guy she didn't know, who was probably sucking up all the oxygen.

Without warning, panic gripped her again. The sound of pounding and tools and voices grated on her. Alisan stood and started pacing.

Kris just looked on, moving out of her path when she came his direction.

"It's really okay, you know? They're gettin' us out. The buses are waiting."

"I need to get out of here!" she called.

"We're working as fast as we can," a disembodied voice called back, and there was more banging.

"I'm gonna die," she said decidedly, pressing her lips together.

Kris put a calming hand on her shoulder. "Hey. You're with me. Nobody dies when they're with me. Are you from around here?" he asked. He figured she was, but he needed her to focus on something else before she hyperventilated.

"Yeah. Well, sort of. I am now. You?" she asked nervously.

"Arkansas. Didn't you see the show?" he teased.

"Yeah. You're the winner," she said nodding.

"I guess." Kris shrugged.

"I'm gonna have such a bad migraine when we get out of here..." Alisan complained.

"You, too?" Kris forced a smile.

"I just hate it in here. Small spaces suck."

Gently, Kris put an arm around her. "Just stick with me. We'll be okay."

--

By the time they got out, it was past midnight, but the bus was still parked faithfully outside the venue. Alisan was pale and shaking from two hours in a confined space with horrible banging going on.

She was planning on just skipping the socializing. Besides, they were probably really behind schedule now. But Kris had other ideas.

"Hey, Alisan. Come over here. Get on the bus," he instructed, when she headed another direction, intent on getting to her car and getting home as fast as possible.

"Nah, you guys gotta go. And I need to get home."

Kris walked over, and took her arm easily. "I said to stick with me, remember? I told everybody you're riding. Besides, we're staying at a hotel here tonight. So, we're a couple hours late. No big deal," he said, steering her toward the steps.

"Girl! Did you finally get out of the elevator?" Adam called from the back of the bus. "Get over here, I miss you. Are you all right? You look pale."

Alisan's head spun at his barrage of questions. Only the last one got through.

"I'm fine," she assured him.

"Thank you," she mouthed over Adam's shoulder, where Kris stood quietly.

And he just nodded, leaving Alisan to wonder how she could have been so wrong about a person.

Kris was everything Adam said he would be. And more, because he was all those things not only to his friends, but to strangers, as well.
