yuumei_nata, I hope you can enjoy this even just a little bit as I didn't quite succeed in fitting in everything you wanted. I hope extra love on Kame and puppies makes up for any shortcomings. ♥
Summary: Junno gets a companion for the turtle he already has at home.
Junno's shopping with Ueda, out for a new pair of boxing gloves and Ueda likes the company, when he randomly notices the pet shop a little way ahead of them. "Really?", Ueda asks and follows Junno through the door.
The shop's not big, but they seem to have everything Junno could think of buying for an animal. More than that, probably, but he isn't that interested in the stock when he catches sight of the big box labelled "puppies".
It's not like a magnetic force is pulling him towards the little dogs happily barking at each other, but it might as well be, Junno thinks, when it doesn't even take him a second to crouch over the edge of the box.
The dogs are small, probably only a few weeks old and they're all cute even though they're marginally different.
The one closest to Junno, a dachshund with fur a shade of yellow Junno distinctly remembers from Yukan Club, has floppy ears and a fast-moving tail.
"I bet you're just dying to get out of here", Junno tells the dog. It blinks at Junno, then throws itself down on its back.
"Heh, you're funny", Junno grins.
Ueda comes up next to him. "I thought you didn't want a dog."
"They're really cute, ne, Uepi?", Junno says happily. He's watching a pair of puppies that are curled into each other in the corner. They're both rather big and their fur is dark brown and curly. They look like they don't need any of the others, content to just lie next to each other. Another little dog trots up to them, black and small and not curly or cuddly at all, pawing at the two of them when he reaches them. They lift their heads and and nudge the newcomer until he lies down with them. Then they close their eyes again. They are kind of lazy, Junno thinks.
"Look at that one", Ueda says and points to a brown puppy that's just run past the sleepy dogs. It's barking happily but sort of breathy from running. One of the lazy dogs barks without even opening its eyes and the brown one skids to a stop shortly before crashing into one of the walls. It looks around for a moment until Ueda reaches down to lift it up and hold it against his chest.
"What do you think about that one?", he asks Junno.
"He's very...", Junno looks at the dogs left in the box, "normal, isn't he?"
"Hm", Ueda says and makes kissing-faces at the puppy. The dog doesn't look very impressed.
Ueda sets the pet back down and it immediately runs over to where a bunch of poodles are playing with each other. One of them is grey, the other white, and for a moment Junno sees only the two of them. But when he looks closer he can see that they're trying to nudge each other away from a third dog, a light-brown puppy with big eyes.
The grey dog paws at the brown poodle and when it turns its head, it looks like the two of them are kissing.
Not for long, though. The white one shoves at the grey dog and silently lies down next to the smallest when he succeeds. It’s adorable, Junno thinks, mostly because the little puppy just keeps on lying there while the other two are fighting over him.
“You like that one?”, Ueda asks, when Junno continues to watch the poodles.
“Is it a boy or a girl?”, Junno wonders out aloud. He thinks it must be a girl, if the other dogs are vying for its attention so much. There’s also the bright pink ribbon tied around the puppy’s neck, but Junno knows people in the Jimusho who would totally wear that as well.
Ueda reaches down again and lifts up the puppy. “Boy”, he concludes after a moment. The two left poodles play with each other, now that their little prize isn’t there anymore.
“Come on, take him”, Ueda encourages and drops the dog into Junno’s arms.
Junno has to bend his head to look at the puppy but then against, it’s doing just the same, the tiny paws patting all over Junno’s chest.
“Hey there”, Junno says.
“Woof!”, the dog says and waggles its tail happily.
Ueda smirks. “That one is an over-achiever.”
Junno is still carrying the dog in his arms when he gets home an hour later. His apartment is dark but when he switches the lights on, he sees Kame sprawled out on his couch.
Junno takes his time putting away groceries and leading his new pet through all the rooms before he stops next to Kame.
“Ne, why don’t you go to bed when you’re tired?” Junno asks his sleeping band mate.
“Want to say hi to Master 2?” he asks the little dog when Kame doesn’t answer.
“Woof”, the pet says. Junno smiles.
He is careful not to disturb Kame when he sets the poodle down onto his belly, but it only takes a few careful steps over Kame’s chest to wake the singer.
“Hey”, Kame says, all husky and warm from sleep and shyly smiling when he sees Junno leaning over him. Only then he looks down at the dog towering over his face.
“Hey”, Kame says again, but it’s more in surprise this time, even when his fingers are already reaching to ruffle the dog’s fur. “Where did you come from?”
“I was shopping with Uepi”, Junno says. “He reminded me of you.”
“Oh really?” Kame laughs and beams up at Junno. “You want a mini-me to carry around when I’m not there?”
“Yeah, well”, Junno starts, “I thought it would be nice to have a pet after all.”
“That’s sweet”, Kame says and smiles when Junno leans down to press a kiss to the corner of his mouth.
“So have you thought of a name yet?” he asks when Junno’s hand joins his behind the puppy’s ear.
Junno grins. “I’m calling him Mockturtle.”
