Title: Catch as Catch Can
Author/ess: muzivitch
Series: Alias
Length: 2,077 words, one shot
Character/pairing: Sark/Rachel, appearances of Tom and the rest of the team
Rating/warnings: PG-13, good to know 5x09 Bob and all that
Summary: (None given.) For a request of the following: Sark as a cowboy, involving Rachel, a lasso, and a cupboard.

In the end, all of the Sark/Rachel fics have virtually the same basic premise, but that can be spun in so many different ways. Like with this one. I have to admit, when I saw the prompt/request, I wondered how it could be done, but there you go. Rachel’s on a mission, Sark’s also on a mission, and that involves a hotel, the retrieval of data, and the usual game between the two.

Characterization and voice are spot-on, naturally, what with Sark’s serpentine-ish ways and Rachel’s attempts to give exactly what she gets. And it’s done very impressively, considering the prompt - which was incorporated pretty much flawlessly, really. The whole thing’s a fun, light, slick, not-as-usual spy game, and did I mention fun to read? There’s not much else I can say besides go read for yourself and see.

Preview:
Dixon and Marshall had come up with some truly ridiculous covers for her in the past six months, since she’d returned from Chile, but she thought this one probably even topped the two weeks as a Swiss nanny, complete with “interested” employer.

Hell, she hadn’t even known New Zealand had rodeo queens, and she just hoped that she wasn’t actually required to use the lasso she was carrying in her left hand.

“Hello,” she said in the distinctively New Zealand accent that she’d annoyed her new partner with for several hours on the plane. “Hannah Donaldson. I have a room reserved, and it better be a good one. I don’t spend the day getting dusty in the ring to sleep on poly-blend sheets.”

Rachel was so preoccupied playing the spoiled ranch princess that she didn’t notice the cowboy checking in at the desk three people down from her. Which was unfortunate for her, but very fortunate for Julian Sark.
