On the outside, Jack is filthy and unpleasant and he is only ever - ever - out for himself. He will lie, cheat and murder to get what he wants. On the outside, Jack is purely a villain.
But Will knows better than this. He can see past the illusion. Beneath that pirate's chest beats a heart filled with the reluctant desire to do what's right. Jack would deny it if asked, but Will can tell: every time that Jack risks his life, Will knows that what's on the outside is only an act.
