This is something that I'm still currently researching, but I thought it would also be helpful to ask about you guys' experiences in the workplace.
I'm currently looking for a job after a layoff last year, and I'm frankly terrified of any new work environment I'll end up in. My last job had 16 paid holidays, 10 sick days, and 10-15 days of vacation a year, which is what I needed to work while having fibromyalgia. They also let me come in at 9:30-10 every morning and were extremely flexible and laid-back about leaving for appointments and working from home. All this was without me ever having to tell them I had medical problems.
I know it'd be ridiculous to hope for that at pretty much any other company, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how I'm going to make another job work. I'm not opposed to unpaid leave. so would that be like FMLA? Usually FMLA is for one long absence, but what I really need is more sick days to use at my discretion. I see now that FMLA is for existing employment, which I don't have, so now I have to figure out how to do this with a new employer.
How do I even broach the subject of accommodation with a new employer? Does anyone have experience with this?
