NUCYNTA, massage and an opiate question

I know I saw a post on this not too long ago. http://www.nucynta.com/nucynta/  I was initially intrigued but since I just went through a medication change at the end of July was thinking I'd hold off for a while.  I went from Cymbalta to Savella and I have generally been functioning better on Savella but not tonight...err...this morning it's 5:39 am, pouring rain outside and I'm in excrutiating pain.  Granted I've had a very stressful month and due to the problems I have had this month I've gone an usually long while w/out a massage which doesn't help.

Just a side note on the massage: I've found Massage Envy to be very affordable, that is if you become a member (sign a 12 month contract) but it's been worth it.  I was initially worried a chain wouldn't be as good and I've seen a variety of therapists that have all been great in their own way, but found one who's mum has fibro and lupus and I really lucked out with that as she's spectacular!  see http://www.massageenvy.com/ to find out if there's one near you.  Just as a warning, they do lure you with a first massage of $39, then tell you after you come out to pay, that you have to sign up to be a member, otherwise you pay full price which is $70+ something.  However, monthly membership is $59.00 and that covers your first massage.  Then any one-hour massage for the rest of the month is $39.  You can get as many as you want in a month.  I used pay $75 for a 1 hour massage and sometimes couldn't afford more than one a month.  Now I can fit at least two a month into my budget, sometimes more.  And if you're too sick to make it in one month, you don't lose the massage, it's carried over to the next month, so you'll have two waiting for you, or a two-hour massage, or a hot stone massage.

Now back to the Nucynta:  I know my doctor might not be thrilled with the idea of prescribing something like Nucynta on a regular basis because of the opiod part.  However, he does prescribe me Vicodin in short supplies for those days when the pain is so bad I want to cry (like the way I woke up today).  When I take vicodin, I don't get tired like most people report.  I get awake, and more functional than I usually am (like before I was sick type of functional) which is why I'm thinking Nucynta might help me.  But I know I'd have to come off the Savella and switching meds was a nightmare in a way (really the worst part for me was irritability and getting irrationally ticked off at those people closest to me real easily for about the first month).

I've been really curious why I feel more functional on Vicodin, which is why I'm contemplating if this med will help.  If anyone has any theories as to why this is, besides the fact that I'm not in pain, I'd really love to hear them.

I may wait till it's been on the market longer, since I just changed meds.  I'm not sure.  But if it could make me as alive as I feel when I take Vicodin and I could feel that way on a daily basis...well I don't expect meds to perform miracles these days, but that could potentially come close.
