Strawberry shortbreads dipped in chocolate ganache. These were made with a standard shortbread recipe with a few tablespoons of freeze-dried strawberries mixed in.

I forgot to take a photo of my birthday cake. I apologize. It was a simple two-layer white cake, bordered and frosted with Wilton buttercream cut with Maraschino juice. I darkened the leftover frosting and piped “Happy Birthday Benjamin, Jessica, Ranger and Pap-Pap” onto it, and then saved whatever frosting I had left over ( Read more... )

Yesterday, when I was shopping for cake supplies, one of the women working at Mary’s Cake and Candy told me that the 1lb buttercream batches they were selling was the best premade frosting she’d ever had. I halved my earlier recipe to make muffins for Eric. He’s coming up today and I wanted to have something sugary and tasty waiting here for him in addition to his usual request of a pot of white rice.
