On his first glance up, Shadow had been unable to see the occupants of the gondola, not from where he stood on the ground. But the laughter... he was certain he heard the laughter, very close. Perhaps a well placed dispel would reveal the other, but it was unlikely this would be easy, here amid the confusion and panic that had already begun with Kefka's initial attack.
Then, something was suddenly off, something more than the screams and burning. Shadow's second glance up was nearly too late. The gondola had already been loosened, and was now falling toward the ground, directly toward the assassin. Damn. He'd made an error. A mistake.
The malicious sound of laughter echoed all around, and he had only an instant in time to react. It was one of those moments that set him on edge, that made him far too close to feeling a shred of emotion stirring inside. Options flashed quickly through his mind, and his reflexes forced him to move, to move now, but the damned thing was too large, and it was hard to judge the distance, the height, or the speed at which it fell. It would be impossible to stop it, unless he casted something-
Shadow raised his hand out-
But found that it wasn't necessary. The gondola had halted in its descent, hovering just inches above him. The assassin tensed, bent down and sprang into a run. He needed distance away from the gondola, but to still keep Kefka in his sights- to get out from under it directly at least. Now the clown's position was certain.
Shadow then heard his name being called. The girl. Turning his attention in that direction, Shadow felt a sense of... what was this, dread?... at realizing that Relm had saved him, but was drawing attention to herself in the process. Interceptor was barking.
"Relm! Stay back!" he warned her. The large gondola floated unsteadily in the air nearby. Don't get in his range, kid, he thought, trying to get a steady aim at Kefka, if he was even able to hit him from this distance.
