LOOOONG update - sorry :-)

So, life has been up and down lately....lots of stuff going on, and at times, it seemed drama to go with it. But things are always better than they seem because I worry way too much. I'll try to remember what's happened in the past few days and make a nice update for all to read, if they so choose. But FIRST, The 78th Annual Academy Awards!!!!

As you all may know, I, thanks to the influence of my best friends and my brother, have become quite a follower of film. The Oscars are a fun way for those of us who love good movies, to see if our opinions match those of the Academy, and if our favorite movies/actors of the year are successful in receieving a golden statuette. Now, as many people would agree, the Oscars can be quite biased, unfair, and at times really frusturating. But we need to remember that it's impossible to compare movies/actors to each other because they are all in a category of their own. For example, Charlize Theron's performance in "North Country" is completeley different from Keira Knightly's role in "Pride and Prejudice." The same goes for movies like "Crash" and "Good Night, and Good Luck." Those are two completely different kinds of film. Anyway, I've always been comforted by the philosophy that receieving an Oscar Nomination is just as honorable as winning the actual award. And, I think, for the most part, the actors are able to see it the same way. The fun part in all of this, though, is that we each have our favorites and we each want to see a certain actor/movie succeed, sometimes simply because it's the only movie we've seen in the category. And of course, there are the other special parts of watching the long broadcast - fashion, acceptance speeches, the host making fun of actors (tonight it will by Jon Stewart, which will be so much fun) SO, this is way more information than you need, but I thought I'd write it anyway.

I don't have any strong predictions for this year, but am just anxious to see who wins because most of the actors/movies are first-time nominees. Like, I'm so excited for people like Heath Ledger and Michelle WIlliams. We associate these actors with "Never Been Kissed" and "Dawson's Creek." Good for them for giving such break-out performances in their roles. And, OH, Reese Witherspoon did SUCH a great job in "Walk the Line." I'm definitely rooting for her. And as much as I'd like to see my adorable Jake Gyllenhaal win for supporting actor, Paul Giammati definitely deserves the little gold man for his role in "Cinderella Man." I could go on for days about the "Brokeback" controversy, but I won't.....maybe in another entry. The only movie that I REALLY wanted to see, but didn't get to was "Capote." Everyone was saying it was so good, I'll just have to rent it in a few weeks. I did, however, see the following big Oscar movies : Brokeback Mountain, Crash, Munich, Hustle & Flow, Walk the Line, Pride and Prejudice, North Country, Cinderella Man, and The Constant Gardener. They were all great - see any of them and you'll be entertained. And Ludacris just entered the Red Carpet - not looking bad, though, lol. Dude, he was in two Oscar movies this year - Crash and Hustle&Flow. And I think it's funny that a song entitled "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" is nominated for an Oscar. Before I finish this, I just wanted to give a shout-out to everyone who remembers the amazing Oscar party at my house last year where we enjoyed a fun game, delicious crepes and fondue, and fashionably-dressed people. That will forever be one of my favorite memories of my friends and home. Haha.....so I will complete my novel about the Oscars by saying - enjoy the show tonight :-)

So, last Thursday we got a random snow storm of about 5 inches or so and that got us out of RLC and MTCL. Yay :-) We ended up spending the afternoon watching "Wet Hot American Summer" at Alison's, which was so much fun - I love that movie. Then, on the way back to campus on the shuttle, we decided to go to Konover, buy a lot of junk food and then watch "Hey, Mr. Producer!" So we did that, and it was good fun. After everyone left, Jordan and I chilled in the room for the rest of the night and watched a movie. Friday, we unfortunately had classes, so we went to those and my group turned in our Greek Theatre Project for Stagecraft. It was such a huge relief to get that off my shoulders, and I think we did pretty well. Jamison is a life-saver :-) After class, I came back to my room and got ready to go and see the second year AT project "Reckless." It was SOOo great. I really enjoyed it and was once again, so impressed by that class. The show was really weird at first, but then turned out to be really good. btw....my adjectives suck right now. After "Reckless," Veronique and Jared came back with me and Jordan, and we watched "Cinderella Man." I spent all day Saturday watching movies again, and then that night met up with Jordan, Alison, Sarah, and Brittany and we went to Club Blu. But Blu was so dead, so we left and had to call Jake Ottosen to pick us up because we forgot to bring money for a cab. We felt terrible, but we got to see Shani then too, so that was cool. I hope she starts to feel better soon - she's been really sick :-( So has everyone and there mom though - Ryan, Christie, Veronique, you name it. Feel better, everyone! After we hung out at Ali's for awhile (which was a BLAST) we came back home and went to bed. Today, Jordan and I went to breakfast and then watched "Walk the Line." Yes, I've been extremely lazy this weekend, but it's been fun, so whatever. And I'm gonna stop now because I bet you all have stopped reading.

But really quick, I hate Isaac Mizrahi as a pre-show host and Naomi Watts deserved an Oscar nod for her performance with a GREEN SCREEN in "King Kong." It takes an extremely talented actress to act as well as she did with NOTHING in front of her. That is all.

Sorry again for the long entry, and I love anyone who actually had the patience to read the whole thing. Byee :-)
