She’ll never fall in love.
People like to tell her that one day she’ll fall for some guy, but if falling in love means to lose yourself completely, then she wants nothing to do with it. Yuffie sniffs loudly, reaching with her small fist to rub her tiny nose. She turns her eyes heavenward when she sees from a distance how Cloud gallantly offers to buy a bouquet of pretty flowers from the pale-pink lady with the wide eyes. She notes the blushing colour that bleeds through Aerith’s cheeks, the way Cloud pretends he doesn’t care, but he does. He clenches his hand when he’s feeling a little nervous, and he likes to look away when Aerith’s intense look gives him pause.
She thinks people who fall in love are loopy, mad-crazy.
Even the turks over there by the tall structure of industrial edifices, underneath the umbrella of shadowed buildings. They’re at their usual: goofing off-they’re silly too, the way Elena fumes and fusses over Reno, and pulls his red ponytail. He too, flusters and flaps his arms wildly; his cheeks are suffusing with a familiar angry colour. Yes, everyone’s falling in love.
She looks up at the sky, the way it churns a kind of wild air of blossoming pink and gold: pink for the hearts and the gold that soaks in those liquor-kissed hearts.
As she whirls around she does it so quick that she bumps into Tifa so suddenly and almost -too violently.
“OOF!” Yuffie’s face has buried into Tifa’s…what’s-her---those twins! Those-she feels her face heat up like a lit furnace. “Oh, I’m…”
She sputters. Tifa grabs hold of her so Yuffie doesn’t lose balance.
“Hey, you,” Tifa’s very friendly voice stirs her awake. “You all right?” Her fingers are softly digging into Yuffie’s skin, to clutch her there--and, her eyes are looking straight to Tifa’s….
She clears her throat. Yuffie looks up, feeling surly, “Yeah, I’m fine. Watch where you’re going.”
Tifa’s very laughter almost startles her. “You’re the one that bumped into me.”
“Yeah…well.” Her face feels flushed and the warmth is spreading through her body. Yuffie looks into Tifa’s dark eyes. “If you knew where I was and I didn’t, you would have the sense to move out of the way.”
“Allright. Fine...” Tifa sends her a small puckish smile.
“Allright then.”
Barely a whisper, a smile. It’s enough.
