Author's Note: For this one, I focused less on the scenery and more on foreshadowing future possibilities, or explaining things a little. I may do some multple drabbles that are only part of one dream later on, to delve more into explanations and such.
Rikku was dreaming again, that much was perfectly clear. For a third night in a row, she was fully aware and lucid. She suspected it had something to do with her Dreamsphere, and was content to leave it at that.
The landscape this time was unreal. It was amazing, surreal, and beautiful. It was as if an entire ocean had been turned to fire, then crystallized. Like ice. The air was cold, and she could see her breath, but when she touched a crystal, it was comfortably warm, and they tingled to the touch.
She stepped around a crystallized wave of fire, intent on exploring and seeing what there was to find, but was startled to see what she did. Ashe stood facing the wave of crystal, running her hand over the surface. Her mouth was slightly parted, like she was gasping. Rikku didn’t blame her. It was something worthy of gasping at.
“You again!” she said, pointing at her.
Ashe jumped slightly, like in the field of roses, apparently startled again.
“Rikku!” She said, “Oh, you startled me.”
“Oh, my bad, sorry. But how are you here again?”
“I could ask you the same,” Ashe replied, approaching her calmly, “I thought this was a dream, but since when do people have different dreams with the same people in them over and over?”
“I thought that was weird, too,” Rikku said, “But now that I think of it, if we’re both from the desert, why aren’t I having dreams of Dalmasca?”
“Of Dalmasca? You say that as if you’re the one dreaming…”
“I am,” She said, “That is, if this is a dream…”
“Maybe we both are,” Ashe said, after a moment’s pause, “Magic can do a lot of things.”
“I’ve never heard of dreaming magic,” Rikku replied, looking around again.
“Me neither.”
“Oh!” Rikku snapped her fingers, as if I light bulb had gone off in her head. “I have a Dreamsphere. I use it every night before bed.”
“Dreamsphere?”
“It’s a magic item that’s supposed to record dreams. But it hadn’t recorded anything, so maybe it’s causing these.”
“Well, that might explain it for you, but what about me?” Ashe asked, her face showing signs of her pensive thoughts. “Maybe it’s that odd stone I found.”
“Now it’s my turn to ask…”
“It’s a mixture of Nethicite and Auracite. Nethicite is for absorbing magic, and Auracite summons things.”
“So maybe it summoned me?” Rikku suggested.
“Possibly. But it sounds too unlikely.”
“Yeah, really. Maybe we have the same blood type.”
“I doubt that has anything to do with it…” Ashe said.
“You’re probably right,” Rikku said, “But anyway, look at this place! It’s amazing!”
“Yes, very. What do you think it is? It looks like some kind of ice and fire together.”
“Something like that, I guess.” She touched the wall of crystal next to her.
“These dreams seem to put us in places opposite of the desert,” Ashe said.
“There’s a lot of possibilities in the category…”
