Oh please tell me this is all a big joke. A big horrible joke.
The Dark is Rising is one of my favorite series. I know it's not one that everyone likes, but it's personally one of my favorites. I love the way Arthurian legend is mixed in and the cast of characters. And now I find out that all of the Arthurian legend has been taken out?! How in the world are they going to build this story? It's build around the legends. They obviously aren't planning on a sequel because without the Arthurian legend you're just missing everything else. The story is built and I do been built from Arthurian legend and they're taking it all out!
And then the main character, Will, has been changed to an American living in England. WTF. Oh and his father is now a Physics professor. In that article up there it says that Will is one of the most passive leads ever and always seems like he's a hundred years older or so in the book. Well yes he is that way, since he's an Old One! It means he does have knowledge from hundreds of years before he was born and is supposed to act like that. On the opinion of him being passive, that's just part of his personality. He's described as easy going. Does every main character have to be high strung and adventure loving now? Plus this guy is judging a character from one book out of a series. There are three more books following this one and personally I think Will shows more of himself in those. Especially when he's with Bran.
I'll admit that when I first tried to read The Dark is Rising I couldn't get through it. Then it got on the list of Battle of the Books and so I had to read it. Once I got through the first bit and then on to the other books, I really loved the series. Now since I haven't read the second book in the series (which most people read first) in quite some time this may not be true, but I think that it's the hardest one to get into. Also, if you don't know Arthurian legend it's harder to get into the books because it's easy to miss something (even if most of it is roughly explained).
I just can't compose myself to say how much I want this movie to be destroyed. Someone please sabotage the plane or however it's getting to it's final destination so that the world (those who haven't read the books) won't believe this is anything near what the books read. This movie is just an impostor trying to pass itself off as The Dark is Rising.
