Birthday

Sep 25, 2006 16:23

I would say that this year has to be the most low key, quietest birthday I've ever had. Being my third birthday away from Hawaii, they've been getting steadily quieter and more low key. Mostly because I haven't felt like oragnizing a party or anything in my own honor. It's one thing to do it in Hawaii, where people would probably be asking me ahead ( Read more... )

Ya know, I'm also thinking that going out to eat with friends on my birthday is less than satisfying.

I'm starting to think a regular ol' potluck would be better. But screw it, next year I'm not planning anything for my birthday. I'll be turning 30 -- Shelly made offers to plan something for me. And I'm gonna stick it to her next year. Heheheh...

You only think you're gonna stick it to me. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Happy Birthday, Rochelle! I think I'll actually be in Hawaii the whole time you guys are here so we should do a mass birthday dinner. I'll get Y to bake a cake or something for you.

Heh heh, Shelly's gonna stick it to Amy!

Thanks!! Wow, you'll really be around for the whole x-mas/new year time? ...does that just mean there aren't any kendo tournaments or trips happening at the same time? *hee* just kidding. I'm glad, the last couple of times have been so hit or miss, it'll be nice to see you and hang out for more than a couple hours.

Maybe we should do a big cooking/potluck/dinner thing, like Amy suggested above. We'll just have to determine what residence is best suited for it. And I feel bummed that I don't get to share my cooking experiments with you guys, so it's be neat to be able to make something for everyone.

I'm taking my trip early in December this time. I'll be back by the 15th.

If I'm on speaking terms with my pops we could always do it at my place (don't you love how dirty that sounds?). You know what'd be fun? Doing a "traditional" holiday dinner. Like a making a Christmas goose. Or that chicken stuffed in a turkey thing.

Traditional x-masy type dinner would be cool. But don't you think that with all of us there would be an overabundance of dessert? Not that I feel that's entirely a problem. However, I must stress that there is nothing traditional about a chicken stuffed in a turkey. And before you get ambitious, we are also not John Madden, so there will be no turduckens either. heh

It doesn't sound nearly as dirty as the earlier comments that included "And I'm gonna stick it to her next year." and "You only think you're gonna stick it to me. Be afraid, be very afraid." Nevermind both of these comments have the title, "I agree with your mom."

C'mon, we gotta make this (http://www.thesalmons.org/lynn/turducken.html). Picture that on the table with parker house rolls, sweet potatos with marshmallows, fresh cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and green beans. For dessert: apple pie (ala mode), pumpkin pie, pecan pie, brownies, and butter mochi. Can you tell I'm on a diet again?

I think this is a good idea. Just like Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. That was the best Thanksgiving I've ever had. And what we only had... uhh, Shelly's kabocha pies, Edna's sour cream pie, a store bought pecan, tofu pie?, some custard.... I think we were rather controlled in the dessert making. My fave was yer pie, Shelly. Hehehe...

And I'm fine with making food-food. Hey, what about Ham or Prime rib, or L A M B! Although I could do sweet rolls. We should plan this for real. If people were really into it we could rent a house. Or take over someone's parents house-- even possibly offering up a hotel stay to the vacating parents. I don't make any bets on yer relationship with yer dad around the holidays, Shelly! hehehe...

This sounds sooooo awesome. Let's do it. Really. I'm thinking I could talk to my Dad and have him set up a room and send J's parents off. They have that big dinig room table and all. And if my Dad takes care of the hotel, it won't cost much at all, especially if we all split it.

Really, let's do this. I really really want to do this.

I think the goose is a good idea. Since we've never done that. We're we talking about making duck or goose before?

Hmmm...a potluck sounds like a really good idea. Like a barbeque or picnic at the park or something. I like. Less formal, less pressure-y, less expensive...I'm going to keep that in mind for the future.

I wouldn't underestimate Shelly. She is The Overachiever, and it would be wise to remember that. She might get ambitious and make one of her gigantic wedding/graduation cakes just to spite you.

I didn't have any birthday cake this year.

I had key lime pie, and tofu pie. No cake, at'all.

Well, J's grandma bought me a lil cake, but I felt the urge, so I baked myself a pumpkin spice cake.

Sometimes pie is better though....did you at least get a candle?
