trivalent asked me to. And her word is my command, haha.:P But, seriously, I just enjoy writing Charlie.
The moon was high up in the sky as Charlie slept soundly on his belly. Rosalind watched him as he did so, wondering if tonight was the night. They were good for each other, Charlie and her. Charlie grounded her adventurous spirit and she helped Charlie come out of his shell. Still, there was more to being in this sort of relationship than being 'good for each other'. She needed more and he deserved better. She traced the name written low on his back. He stirred and woke up. He turned to look at her.
"Tonight was different," she whispered.
"It was."
"What's your excuse?"
"Ladies first," Charlie answered, linking his fingers with hers as she lay down beside him.
"You'll hate me. And I can't live if you hated me."
"Is it someone else?"
"Yes."
"Same here."
"So this is the end, then?"
"I wouldn't call it the end. We can still be friends. In fact, I think we're better off as friends," Charlie whispered.
She leaned her forehead against his hand. "Ever the optimistic sweetheart. Yes, I have to agree. Does this mean I can't sneak into your bed at night anymore?"
"I gather you'll be too busy sneaking into his."
"You read me far too well. I do love you."
"And I, you. But in a different way than it should be."
"Is she better than me, Charlie?"
"You and her are different."
"Can I spend the rest of the night, at least? My bed is cold and Dominique never shuts the closet door."
"Of course."
