singing your praises and your poems - black history month in paris

Feb 18, 2008 18:03

i'm very lucky to be taking on the following project during this month of february. i always complain that i don't do much for black history month and that i don't take it on in my everyday life. this year, ironically enough, i will be doing something very suitable to celebrate the month... even if it'll be in a country that doesn,t officially recognize black history month.

my manager's husband is a jazz musician who happens to like my voice. he wants to record a demo of music he's written to amiri baraka poems. i will be singing the poems to match the music. it'll be my first session gig as a musician. but i'm reading a lot about amiri and watching a lot of his performances on youtube. trying to get an essence of who he was. what made him angry and what experiences painted his poet's quill.

i'm really honored i've been offered this.

i've also been hanging out a little with the other haitian dyke in the country, fellow musician cae. more on her and her fabulous music and life in paris in an upcoming entry. for now? working on press coverage...

i miss you all. and i'm still looking for adresses to send postcards to!
