We went to a new job site today. It was pretty good, for a Monday, despite an inauspicious beginning. We'll be back there tomorrow.
The chicken coop light has been installed and is on its third day of operation. I have more or less committed to keeping the "extra" light on into the night, rather than trying to repeatedly adjust to turning it on before sunrise (thanks to Daylight Saving time, et al.) which would invariably be frustrating.
Carissa was praised when she did an "unintentional" audition for a solo part singing a CMA song last night. The CMA staff who heard her *really* want her to do the solo (they say she sounds great; neither Amy nor I were actually around to hear it), but Carissa has shyness or self-doubt holding her back. We're going to try to strongly encourage her to do it. We'll see how she responds.
This evening I took that fitness assessment at the gym. In the process (which is the primary goal of this assessment, of course), I was convinced to subscribe to a sorta-personal-trainer program. It's costly, enough to make me wince- but after Amy reviewed what I signed up for, she thinks I should definitely do it...so, onward and upward...!
I killed the skunk that's been squatting on my property (and possibly eating some of our eggs) the last few months. I looked out the window during dinner and noticed it trotting along the side of the house going east toward the chicken coop, and I didn't have time to do anything else but grab the shotgun and shoot it from the back door (I didn't even have time to walk out to the patio!). My first shot was made while it was walking away from me toward the chicken coop; I didn't lead it adequately but it was a really near miss that appeared to make it panic. It started scampering north toward the neighbor's fence (broadside to me) when I shot it on the run, as it was getting close to the trampoline and would've gone out of sight.
The area within about 5 yards of where the body dropped smells *awful* even now, so I suppose it at least partially let out a gland squirt as it died. The chickens barked and clucked like crazy for a few minutes, but calmed down a little later when Amy shut them in for the night. I disposed of the body, and regret that I didn't "double-bag" it because the car caught some of the odor in my trunk. Windows are cracked open tonight!
Amy made an *awesome* chili for dinner. Everyone had seconds because it was so well-loved...the only downside is that she didn't make enough for leftovers.
There may be more to say on some of this stuff in the future.
God is good. That is all.
