Totally Apart From Normal

I think that winter is not going to be able to take another cold, deep stab at us in the next "remaining" month or so...of course, predicting the weather in Oklahoma is never a sure thing- but man, has the weather taken a drastic turn towards "warm" in the last couple days. We went from "freezing cold" to "above room temperature" (72 degrees) in one straight go, skipping "jacket weather" altogether.

Except for when I'm at work; I do still need to wear my fleece-lined jacket (with hood, in the morning) all day. Going to my car at the end of the day I would be sweating if I didn't take it off before the drive home, though. As much as I didn't want us to take such a "leap" into warm weather, I am at least glad that I don't have to worry about losing feeling in my toes. Apparently I bought myself some mild knee pain from all the "stomping" I did (to keep blood flow to my feet) over the last couple weeks, which I hope will be something I remember next time it gets this cold.

There are still pathetic dirty snow piles here and there, which is kinda miraculous to me considering how absurdly warm and sunny it has been since Friday. We have about a 2-foot mound at the dead end of our street, but it's a pretty well shaded area so that isn't terribly surprising.

Last night we had a 6:30 "property and space" meeting at the church, which went to almost 8pm. Thankfully I went to dinner with the kids first (all three came with me so Amy could rest and sooth the headache she got during the day), so they were able to sit calmly and quietly through the duration. There is so much on the to-do list, but we have also accomplished so much too- the one "benefit" of the virus is that the church has seen a lot less "frivolous" traffic indoors and outdoors over the last year, allowing construction/renovation/etc projects to progress without a lot of notice, interference, or comment...and believe me, that's a good thing. Our only shortcoming is that a lot of work we did was completed without the benefit of before/after pictures being taken! I reminded everyone at the meeting to take those pictures: it should be good for morale, and possibly motivating people to be supportive and/or join in on some of the work that has to be done.

Dinner with the kids was nice- we went to Burger King, one of Barrett's favorites now that he can eat a whole whopper by himself (he has a cheese whopper with everything else OFF of it...for now anyway). I normally order chicken fries and nuggets for Carissa and Dillon, but Carissa asked if this was the place where she once ate a burger that she "loooooved," and indeed it was- so I got her a cheeseburger and sure enough, she devoured it with plenty of room for fries, a cake donut, and a couple chicken fries that Dillon offered her. Will have to make a note to hold the pickles and mustard for her next time, though.

Once we came home, everyone was pretty tired and mostly just wanted to get ready for bed. We watched this new-to-Netflix show I was lucky to get the kids hooked on: it's called The Repair Shop, and it functions sorta like a documentary and "reality" show, with mostly only the good aspects of both. The kids seem genuinely interested in the restoration work being done, and the comparisons of the "before" and "after" items.

Anyway, here's the imdb link:

After the kids went to bed, I decided to try to grind through the last few episodes of Z Nation. I would like to say, that in terms of quality writing (plot, direction, logic, suspension of disbelief, etc) this show is probably one of the most bi-polar that I've ever seen; swings from amazingly-good episodes and scenes to stuff that is basically absolute garbage is just baffling- but, common. I guess I could write a rundown of the shows I am watching and have recently watched- but, even with all the free time I have with the MBA program being finished and all, there's not a lot on the list.

That's most of what I've had bouncing in my head lately, but I have more that I'll be sharing a tad later...just to get it out there.

God is good. All the time.
