Dearly you have smiled
sweet the tears you have wept
great the scope of compassion
carried deep within your breast
Sweet your gentle intentions
strong your will to forgive
I remember you always in my heart
the telephone number I was first to learn.
I love the safe haven of your home
your tender concern hoping to understand
I have been broken my whole life
and you were always there
trying to pick up the pieces
always willing to give
Selfless and Sincere tender with my tears
Every memory of you ingrained
in my soul truly did you
show
How one could be loved
without hope of return
Oh how you loved without hope of gain
broken little birds that you
taught through their pain
How to want something more How
to love without cause
without reason or bribe
you gave freely and full
How sweet and kindly I hold you
in memory. Always will you live deep in my heart
without price there you'll live
for you have taught
what true charity is.
I'll love you forever and that
is okay. I'll see you again
on a faraway day. I'll love
you forever and truly we'll
laugh and talk again sweetly
for you've taught me to live. Elizabeth Renee7/8/06
I wrote this for my grandma a few days after she slipped into a coma. I knew that she was going to die at this point, but I wanted to say goodbye. I sent the poem to my grandfather, whom I love dearly, and when I spoke to him the day after the funeral he said, "She never got to read it", but with my every future success in life I know that she will be elated. She loved me and the reward that she silently, maybe not even consciously asked, for in return for all that she did for me, was for me to find happiness. Not to never have sorrow, but just to know joy. She was a good person. I'm glad to have known her.
