Last night was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.
I've seen Ian ball before, 2 and a half years ago, but that show was really different to this one - that one was boppy and energetic and groovy. And he played loads of covers (including a cool PJ harvey one) last time.
This time was slow and sweet and soppy... he played more gomez songs and it was really intimate despite the ten thousand pushing shoving people at the hopetoun. Ian was just SO cute. So scruffy and beautiful I just wanted to take him home and put him in the bath. And then get in there with him. He played two songs before breaking a guitar string, so switched to electric guitar for two songs while the acoustic was getting fixed, then played one chord on the acoustic before breaking another string!! It was very funny.
But he had it all together and played some beautiful songs and told little stories, and got Dan from the Black Keys up there to do Whippin' Picadilly and the song almost brought me to tears. It was just so well done and it had this very sad sounding guitar thing that Andrew told me is called a slide but it doesn't do justice for the way it churns my insides when it sounds.
And there was a lovely song that he said he played at a friends wedding called 'you belong to me' that he did in this beautiful whisper of a voice and then one about premature ejaculation called "Don't let a little failure get you down' which was cliched and predictable but at that stage the comic relief was needed because everything was just getting too intense and sad and thoughtful.
Ahhhh. I can't wait for the group to come out. In September Ian said!!
And andrew and I walked home in the wind and talked about affluenza and advertising and prostitution as a career path and it was very nice and I felt good.
I got a whopping 5 rejections this week - two were from the very first two jobs I applied for almost six weeks ago.
And international noise conspiracy gig tomorrow night - yay!!
