house parties

The weekend was fun. I spent Friday with leeanne at her new place bumming around and preparing stuff for the party. I put up the tarp all by myself! *beams proudly* It was more of a token tarp anyway, since we figured if we bought a tarp it wouldn't rain and if we decided not to buy one it would. So we bought a small tarp in the hope that it would be enough to satisfy murphy's law. It only rained a little bit :) Life is funny like that.

It was an alright party I suppose. Loads of people who I didn't know but I had fun. Worked out some people piny and I had in common which was nice. Had a few conversations. The cake was pretty nice too. I like Leeanne's flatmates but I'm glad I don't have to live with them. And VERY glad I don't have to live with the psycho cat who was dashing around everywhere.

And Saturday was nice as well - Andrew and I had lunch with his family and drove past his sister's new place, and then we watched somersault (what was all the hype about? I thought although the scenery was pretty, it was shitty pathetic excuse for a movie. Grrrrr!) and cooked dinner before going to Rhiannon's housewarming.

Oh.My.God. Rhiannon's place is the nicest appartment I have ever seen so far in my entire life. She's sharing with two other girls and it is a GORGEOUS penthouse in Stanmore (opposite the annandale and stanmore macca's). They have the most beautiful appartment I have ever seen. They have an enormous wrap-around balcony which is accessible from all bedrooms and a nice big bbq area and everything is brand new and sparkling white. She only pays $185 per week!! The other's pay more but still, it'd almost be worth sharing if you got to live in a place as nice as that. And it's so big and spacious.

I got to speak to Rhiannon's sister which was nice- you know how we call Rhiannon a midget? Her sister Sian is even tinyer (yes it doesn't seem possible but it is) Sian is practically mini-midget. But so lovely, and friendly and bubbly. It was funny speaking with Rhiannon's friends who were all lawyers who earn bazookas of money (like more than I could ever expect to make in 10 years!) but they were all pretty nice and there was one who quit her $80K a year in melbourne job as a lawyer to come here and look for a job... and she was saying how she went for a job as an accounts manager for an advertising agency, and it was a $37K a year job so she was thinking "that's ok, it'll be less pressure, it'll be nice to just settle into sydney and have regular working hours and stuff" and they rang her and told her they'd found someone better qualified than her. She said to me, all indignant, "I'm a fucking copyright and intellectual property lawyer! I studied arts law for eight years and worked at [insert name of law firm which for some reason I can never remember] for four years... I can do your fucking advertising job with one hand tied behind my back!" It was funny.

Anyway Rhiannon's penthouse is so far the winner of "nice appartments I would love to live in"... oh wait, Julia's parent's one at town hall is really nice too... and it's right above Myer so it's even more central... but then it doesn't have such a large entertaining area... but it's such a great location and it's also beautiful...and it has a great view.

Hmmm. Oh well.

I read 'The birth of venus' which I really liked. And I'm working my way through Roald Dahl's short stories again, I really like them, he's such an amazing author - there's not one word in his stories that doesn't need to be there. He's so good!! Am reading 'et si c'etait vrai' finally and finding it ok but I can't help picturing reese witherspoon and in the book the girls name is lauren which is a bit jarring.

Nuff said. I'm just rambling. Still haven't got a new job. It's been a month now...
