Deathly Hallows uberwank: Chapter 23, Malfoy Manor

Jan 14, 2008 17:56

It sort of happened again. This one's got Harry/Draco in it. Bad, melodramatic, unbeta'd Harry/Draco. It's not as porny as the handjob of chapter 19, but it's there. Also, I fully expect to have failed the assignment I should have been doing instead of writing it.

Long chapter is long. )

Wendy Darling from Peter Pan (now named "Wendy Potter", in her 30s, and married to a man named Harold Potter who is 20 years older). O_o

Brilliant, as always. :) I don’t want to quote it all back, but here’s the shortlist of other bits I particularly liked:

Ron getting punched beats another chapter of camping any day.

...sort of like if Hannibal Lecter had said, "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some spaghetti hoops and a nice pot of strawberry Munch Bunch. Nom nom nom".

As the snatchers drag their prisoners to Casa Malfoy, Dumbledore's ex tells Voldemort he "never had it" and Voldemort is way pissed off.

The whole H/D part, from He gazes at Harry... to For then, his heart was truly ripped out ( ... )

You know, the religious derivation of "cruciatus" had pretty much gone over my head until you pointed it out (ha, that's what I get for being a total heathen). I think you're right that's it an individual reader thing. I dunno. It doesn't even bother me that much, it was more that I felt a bit underwhelmed by one of the main characters getting tortured and couldn't put my finger on why. That and I am grumpy and enjoy being unnecessarily picky. :P

Harold Potter = O_o indeed. He's not our one, though - unless our one, post-epilogue, goes back in time, grows a beard, gets obsessed with shipbuilding, and has sex with an Austrian soldier called Rolf. (I hope JKR reads this somehow and that last bit gives her plot bunnies for an eighth book, but I don't think that's going to happen.)

Thank you for all the quoting back - especially the Harry/Draco, which nearly didn't make it in, as I was worried it was just too flowery. Your approval in slashy matters means a lot. ♥

The Harry/Draco was fantastic! You should be out there writing H/D fanfic instead of doing RL stuff like dissertations and so on. Though you have to finish the Uberwank first, of course!

Lost Girls has soared to no. 1 on my wishlist. Rolf, eh? *mind boggles*

Maybe the Lost Girls Rolf is Luna's (interview-canon) husband! Oh man, now that's a plot bunny.

I would love to write more slashy goodness but I have this problem - I can only write it if it's sort of a joke. I have a few ideas for fics but they never seem to happen if I try and write them, because I end up feeling silly. *Scratches head*

I'm going to do a very long comment this time to make up for the last chapter! I'm feeling much better because my friends and I finally got a chaperone for Terminus - an HP convention.

About Grindelwald being dead: Jo actually said that he was dead in the Memerson interview from 2005. But even if you haven't read that, I think most people assumed he was dead because he was "defeated" in 1945. We find that out almost 50 years later, so you'd have thought he was dead by then.

I don't think Malfoy Manor was canon, but it might have been ( ... )

AAARRGGHH I just wrote a big old reply and then my computer ate it. ANGER.

Ahem.

I'm way jealous you get to go to Terminus! I've never been to a con (well, except comics cons with people I know who write comics, but they have mainly involved sitting behind a desk and occasionally posing for photos with a dude dressed as Boba Fett).

On to comments:

Jo actually said that he was dead in the Memerson interview from 2005

I think that's where I had the idea from. I swing between thinking Jo outright lied to throw us off the scent, and thinking she dreamed up the hallows subplot after writing HBP and had to pull a swift bit of retconning. *Shrug*

"Harry was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy." / "I made a grave mistake marrying Tonks."Haha, I love both of those. I also love that line from OotP: "Lupin, who was staying in the house with Sirius..." :D ( ... )

Don't worry about spoiling it for me. Star Wars just really isn't my thing.

And I hate it when LJ eats comments! I was reccing literally 20 fics to someone looking for angsty stuff on Accio R/S Fics - and LJ ate it!

Haha, in that case I won't worry about it. (SPOILER: Jar Jar Binks is really annoying.) :P

Oh, Draco! I loved the bit when you, I mean HE reveals his inner slashy fangirl.
I must admit that I cried when Dobby got killed. That was quite a surprise since I don´t care much for him.
Luna is a fantastic character and she is so cool in this chapter. One of the few guys I loved even more after DH.
At the end I was sorry Peter Pettigrew died. I did not really expect him to survive, still...I wanted at least someone from the Marauders´ generation to stay alive. I grew fond of Wormtail, in a very twisted way.

I am looking forward for the next chapter. (No pressure there :-) You go so fast.)

Can I friend you? I love to follow your writing. It never fails to amuse me and I grin like a thing possessed and scare my family with random outbursts of "Mwhahahahaaa!"

Oh my god, of course you can friend me! I'd be honoured. Can I friend you back?

I feel bad for Draco, you know, because I can't seen any way he isn't massively in the closet. :D I agree on Luna - she is one of my favourite characters, and certainly one of the only ones I have any respect for (along with Neville).

The new chapter is almost ready! I just need to finish a few sentences and upload some videos and stuff like that. I admit I've been a bit slack recently, mainly because this bit of the book is so dull - but I'm starting to get my motivation back now the action is picking up again.

Thank you so much for commenting, as always! :)

Hey, sorry it took me so long to comment, I read this at work and then had stuff to do and more stuff to do and blah blah blah... Anyway, fantastic analysis as always. I have to say that I did enjoy this chapter, mainly for the return of Draco, I'd been waiting a long time to see his and Harry's reunion post Dumbledore's tower topple and I think I preferred your version to the one in the book :P Though I remember reading and then re-reading the Vastly Important Wand Bit a few times to try and understand exactly how that caused him to overpower Voldie at the end and I still don't get it ( ... )

I was pleased to see Draco again, too, especially when he refuses to identify Harry, due to being fixated on his sweet, sweet ass. But I think I may have said all this already. :-P

I swing both ways on the Dobby thing. On the one hand, I hate him and find him deeply annoying and want to kick him across the room like a football, (not to mention I hate all JKR's mushy prose that tries to convince me how sad I should be) but then on the other hand all that "free elf" crap somehow manages to affect me. DAMN YOU, DOBBY.

WTF didn't Voldemort apparate to them?

Agreed. The only answer I have is - because he's really, really stupid. Like pretty much everyone in the series. Head, meet desk.

Looking forward to the next chapter (no pressure).Actually, pressure is a good thing, as it gets me working. The next chapter is almost done but there are like two bits that I can't seem to get right - I need a kick up the arse ( ... )

OMG LOST GIRLS! *clings to you* &heart; that series so fucking hard, it's not even funny.

And Malfoy Manor is totally canon; it's mentioned back in CoS, when Lucius and Draco are in Borgin and Burke's.

And &heart; the additional H/D in here. Fera: MAKING DH MORE SLASHY SINCE 2007.

Lost Girls is so damn awesome. I love how it doesn't attempt to shy away from anything - it's just proud to be porn. And yet it's still not... IDK, not sleazy or exploitative, I guess. Fucking awesome.

I haven't been reading much H/D recently - haven't for ages in fact. I wonder if I'm due a revival? XD
