I will say, that reading this list would most likely discourage anyone from wanting to get to know me

Haha, not at all. I, for one, was practically raised on The Road Warrior. :)

Ha hah! It was the first R-rated movie I snuck into!
Discovered Mad Max on late night tv and was totally hooked -- then the sequel was released and I was doomed to a fixation on dystopian society quest stories at the tender age of 13 (forever).
Nice to see it was an influence on others!

This is a really interesting mix and exercise. I'm not sure how the hell I could narrow it down to 10 movies but I think I might give it a try. There's a very real probability that The Hanging Tree would make it on my list, too.

Interesting! The Hanging Tree is one of my favourite novellas AND movies -- although they are very, very different in adaptation. I'm a HUGE fan of Dorothy M Johnson (grew up in Montana), so The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and Man Called Horse et al are part of my psyche. The Hanging Tree, though, that is a life lesson. And the film version, while different, is no less powerful. I'm impressed that you actually know of it, in most circles it's pretty obscure.

I not only know The Hanging Tree but own a copy of it and have a half-assed idea to make a J3 adaptation of it. I don't know what it is about the fact that I love to mentally kick around the idea of adapting older movies to fanfiction.

I love The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, too. I caught it on TMC about 2 weeks ago during a John Wayne marathon.
