HPPS: The Midnight Duel

Aug 07, 2017 15:45

"I hope you're pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed -- or worse, expelled."

Although no midnight duel actually occurs, quite a bit else happens in this chapter. Chiefly, McGonagall disregards the rules in favour of giving Gryffindor a better chance at the Quidditch cup and Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville learn something about the forbidden corridor on the third floor. But my favourite thing is learning that Hermione is very observant even when faced with possible death or, Merlin forbid, expulsion. She notices not only the obvious bloody great three headed salivating dog, but also that it is guarding a trapdoor. The others, as Sherlock Holmes might have noted, saw, but did not observe.

Yipping Puppies
  • The story of the time Ron almost hit a hang-glider on Charlie's old broom
  • Hooch the animagus -- Madam Hooch is described as having, 'short grey hair and yellow eyes like a hawk"
  • The alternate version of event in which Malfoy and Potter are punished for being utter twits during flying practice
Next: Hallowe'en
