My Star Wars thoughts

Finally got to see Episode 3 tonight. Nearly went yesterday, we went by to harass driftpeasant there. Was neat to see all the lightsabers there and costumes, mostly sadly slapped together, but still fun. Man, I miss that element. Almost sorry I didn't go then, but at least I got to see a bit of the crowd ( Read more... )

Most impressive costume I saw opening night was a very attractive woman of about 23 dressed as Han Solo. a) she might've been the only really good looking woman there. b) It was an AMAZING costume.

My thoughts on the film?

I'll post a longer rant later, but in a nutshell it angered me. It angered me because there were so many good elements they threw out but executed SO badly...

I liked the movie better than Episodes I and II, but it gave me a weird feeling. Like how you eat something tasty that doesn't sit well with you later. They had a lot of special effects, but they really weren't that good. Maybe there aren't enough *good* CGI artists around to do it right and they used who they could to get it done in time. I thought the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park were done better and that movie was made 10 years ago. C3PO and R2D2 were put in digitally in most scenes instead of having someone in a suit. Maybe that was so real costumes wouldn't make the lousy digital stormtroopers look lousier in the same scene. I never liked the casting. Blah blah blah.

The movie had unfair expectations on it compared to the normal movie, so it's gonna get some criticism. But I think it could've been done better.

Josh's take on III. anonymous May 21 2005, 00:23:58 UTC
Dude, that lil guy was my favorite scene in Episode III! A close second was Yoda's "persuasion" of the Imperial Guards. The rest was pretty much half-assed filler. -_-

Exactly! He was awesome! I wish we had gotten a name. And he was so short too.... I mean. *cough*

But yeah, it was good and bad. Good in that we know what happened "officially." Bad because it was rushed. But when doesn't a movie tend to feel rushed? 2 hours just isn't enough most times. And that Lucas seems to play fast and loose with his own rules sometimes. I know it's kind of written into a corner, but Leia's memories of her mother in Return of the Jedi bug me as now we see Padme die soon after naming her children. Blah. That and originally Lucas wrote Owen to be Obi-Wan's brother! You can't argue, Lucas wrote the novelization himself! But I prepared myself to watch crap, and so was amused by the flashing lights and the wookies. Oh, and R2-D2. It's cool to see the spunky little droid do all this stuff, but I couldn't help thinking even at the time, this seems kinda over the top...
