New classes, Changes, and Watching the Son teach...

Today wore out my voice completely. It started with getting florentinescot packed up for her trip down south. In the midst of that, viragostonewall and myself were packing our dry fencing gear and plenty of spare masks, jackets, etc. to go teach a new class in the afternoon. We're teaching a high school group about stage fighting, particularly sword fighting. It's a nice gig and allowed me to work with my son again. Speaking of which, it also gave me a chance to watch him teach and lead a group. So comfortable he was with doing it! And when we demoed actions, he followed my lead when needed and when he was leading easily explained what he needed from me.

Tonight was the first session of my summer beginning fencing class ("Introduction to fencing with the Foil"). A very good turnout of teenagers and adults, about as many as I want in a group without an assistant. First class is always tough on my voice, since it's mostly me talking, showing the equipment, explaining how to stand, etc. It will be interesting to see how many move on to the intermediate class.

It looks like I won't make it to SummerNationals. :( No money available, and with only one student going this year, the cost is to much to expect her parents to pick up... Now if I had managed to upgrade my referee rating this past year & got on the list to work... maybe. Well next year should be better. I expect to have several students at JO's in Charlotte and at Nationals in San Jose. And at least one student at some NACs.

Time for bed. More Stage Fighting classes tomorrow and a big chunk of armory work to be done.
