I blame reality TV.

I was just thinking about how people are complaining non stop about how television shows have gotten significantly worse. People complain about bad dialog, about already done premises. They complain about unrealistic plots.

People complain that the shows aren't REAL.

And then they watch crap like the surreal life and laugh when idiots eat bugs for money and they call that real.

And we wonder why tv has dumbed down. We have dumbed down. We expect less out of television. We don't want reality. We want "real" people doing stupid things for a few extra bucks. Thats not real. Its scripted reality. There is a difference.

The thing is, in the end we all get what we paid for. We went all weak in the knees during the first American Idol and the deep pockets at the television station looked at the bottom line and came to a great conclusion. These "actors" were perfectly willing to pay their own way for the meer chance at possibly becoming a star. It didn't matter the show or what stupid things the show required. These "actors" were willing to do it and pay thier own travel/meal/entertainment fees for the honor to do it.

It came down to the bottom line.

A cheaper show that generated mucho dinero. So why pay the million dollars per show for a good actor/writer/director/cast when you can shell out a few bucks and make a billion? Its simple economics. Its the bottom line. Why put out a good show and be forced to pay top dollar when you can put out a decent/crappy one and pay a whole lot less?

God I hate reality telvision.

Because the only thing real about it, is the greed and stupidity it generates.
