Of course, nothing was really happening. It’s amazing how strange a full night’s sleep can feel when you’re not used to it. Olivia awoke, fisting her sheets, forgetting she’d gone home instead of crashing in the crib.
She’d often feel Alex’s body, next to hers. It had been years since the shooting, but her imagination hadn’t moved on. Alex crept up her body, under the sheets. She could almost hear her breathing.
She’d been thrown off balance ever since that night - the one before Alex testified. It was the way that cramped hotel bed creaked under both of their weight. And they were too busy overanalyzing things to get much enjoyment out of it. Alex was muttering details from the files Olivia had stolen for her.
“Alex, come on…”
“I’m sorry…I….”
It wasn’t any wonder Olivia kept imagining Alex now. Feeling her. Tasting her.
She just wished it would stop happening in the crib. In the squad room, when she nodded off on her desk.
“Olivia? Get outta here already, you need a break.”
“Jesus,” she held her hands up, shakily.
Elliot crossed his arms, “Liv?”
“No, look…I’m fine..…We should probably be re-canvassing the area….” Her breathing betrayed her, and her body was still pulsing. And Elliot had that look on his face.
“You talk in your sleep, Liv,” he said slowly. She glared at him, as if that would force him to come out and say it.
“I wasn’t dreaming,” she muttered, as she stalked out of the building.
