Laura Cadman tells herself not to dither. Primping in front of the mirror, double and triple-checking her neckline and lipstick--this is so not her thing.
The tap on her door makes her jump, and she scrunches her face in the mirror before smoothing her hands down the sides of her blouse and straightening. God-damn, she tells herself, you've trained with Teyla. A little date shouldn't be an issue.
Before Kate has time to knock again, Laura pushes the door open. The self-consciousness dies as she takes in Kate's up-do, deep green dress, and slight smirk.
"Second thoughts?"
"Only if you mean the sort that include: 'can I ravish Kate before dinner and not get her mussed'?" Laura slaps a hand over her mouth, horrified that the words slipped out.
Kate's smirk deepens. "In a word? No."
Reaching for dignity, Laura raises her eyebrows, "Well, then. You look lovely. Shall we stroll?"
"Thank you. I do believe we should."
With an attempt at a stately smile, Laura holds out her arm. All that primping was totally worth it, especially when she feels just the slightest tremor of Kate's hand. It's a point to Laura that she's not the only one nervous about the night to come. Still...
"You sure dinner will be worth it?"
Kate merely gives her a serene look.
It's the sort of look that's gotten Laura into plenty of trouble over the years on Atlantis. She swallows. Maybe she shouldn't have worn heels.
