Charlotte’s fingers twine through her own, different shades of grey in the weak starlight. Tiana’s palm feels damp with sweat, but she still squeezes their hands together, and Charlotte squeezes her fingers in reply.
It couldn’t be this simple, this easy, but somehow it is.
Charlotte’s eyes are huge, shining with emotion, with unshed tears. Happy tears, and Tiana’s heart flutters as Charlotte laughs at herself, at them both, at the discovery.
It’s been right in front of them all along. All these years, growing up together. Their own private fairytale, waiting for them to realise.
“I love you, Tia,” Charlotte whispers, voice quavering but still smiling.
“I love you too, Lottie,” Tiana murmurs, and she reaches up to brush away a tear that rolls down Charlotte’s cheek.
Somehow her hand stays there, cupping Charlotte’s face, and she’s leaning closer, so close.
Only for Charlotte to give a delighted, hiccupping noise and surge forward, her arms wrapping around Tiana’s neck and their lips pressing together.
It’s heaven, it’s perfection, and Tiana gasps, feels Charlotte’s mouth move against her own as they both melt into the embrace.
True love’s kiss, just like in the storybooks. Charlotte’s happily ever after, Tiana’s future, wrapped up in one wish, and the evening star glows high above them, silently watching as their dreams come true.
