Amy woke when she felt the soft brush of fingers against her back. She feigned sleep as they traced not the artistic lines of tattoo but the jagged ones that marred it.
“Where did these come from?” Charissa’s voice was a whisper against her ear.
She turned and met Charissa’s eyes, visible in the dark room by the streetlamp outside.
“It’s not a midnight story.”
“Will you tell me in the day?”
‘It’s not a noon story either.’ “We won’t be here.”
Charissa sighed, “Where did you get the name Malaika?”
“A friend.”
“Do I know this friend?” Charissa pressed a kiss to her shoulder.
Questions, so many questions.
“Maybe. But it’s not a midnight story.” Amy wrapped her arms around Charissa and stopped any more inquiries with her mouth.
The inquisitive need to know more was dangerous. Too dangerous.
Tomorrow she would tell Hannibal she wouldn’t do this any longer. Even if she’d stopped doing it for them a long time ago.
