You never see them on the outside. Her face, while worse for the years of bohemian living, is still basically well-kept, well-maintained. She's not beautiful in any conventional way, even though her intelligence and humor help foster the illusion of a much more attractive woman.
You sense rather than see them, the scars she hides underneath the flesh. You sense them in her off-handed jokes that from anyone else might make you catch your breath in shock. You sense them in the moments of unexpected kindness, so incongrous with the toughness she seeks to project to the world at large. You sense them in the fierce loyalty she has towards those she deems worthy.
She is a woman who has fought, and will fight until the day she dies.
She is beautiful, in her own strange way.
