Together, in the small cottage they had sought refuge after their long journey, Selena and Hannah pretended. They pretended that the infected couldn't reach them here, the walls were their safe haven. Lying in bed together, they pretended Jim was still there with them, just out of reach. When Hannah touched Selena's thigh that first time, seeking comfort she didn't fully understand, they pretended there was nothing wrong with it. After all, it was the end of the world, wasn't it? After so much killing and bloodshed, what was more indiscretion like age?
