She waits upon me, as maidservants will. She cleans my rooms, tends to my clothes, fetches and carries, brings me food and drink.
She waits upon me and in my way, I wait upon her.
When the nightmares grow too awful and I can sleep no more, I sooth my troubled thought with fond anticipation. I can endure the lonely, sleepless hours because I know when they have passed she will come to me.
Will she wear red or yellow? Will her hair be pinned up or down about her shoulders? Will she smile for me? I know she will.
