It’s summer when it happens, the air hot and starchy and burning in most lungs, pulling sweat forcefully from the skins of those who dare venture out.
And Bec is one of those, but she doesn’t expect a Juni, she doesn’t expect the heat from the air to condense into something entirely different within her and she certainly doesn’t expect the searing kiss… Hotter then any day could be.
“You know” Juni mutters breathlessly, pulling back but keeping her arm firmly around Bec’s waist “I think I could just kiss you until the air disappeared in your lungs and burned in mine and until we eventually just became ash floating on the wind… And we’d both be happy with that.”
Bec finds herself shaking, closing her eyes and breathing in a mouthful of the suddenly icy air.
Because everything Juni has said is true… And she cannot tear away, cannot unstuck herself.
The second kiss tastes of triumph.
