Title: Transylvanian Concubine (well, it was playing just now...)
Prompt: 113, vampire
Fandom: Painkiller Jane: the Series
Pairing: Jane/Maureen
Rating: PG
Length: 250
WARNING: This contains spoilers for the episode of Painkiller Jane which just aired. And which I finished watching 40 minutes ago.
"You're dead," Jane says.
Maureen Bowers is supposed to be cold, turning to dust in her coffin.
"This is just a dream, then," replies Maureen, lips stretching into that grin, the one that says, 'I wore this shirt for you, Jane.'
We buried you, Jane thinks. But saying it aloud feels like breaking a promise, with Maureen standing right there.
"Invite me in."
No. Yes. Why. "I don't understand."
"What, you think you're the only one allowed to come back from the dead?" And now Mo' is definitely mocking her, eyes full of something like superiority.
A superiority that is as inhuman as Jane sometimes feels. It's there for a moment, then is gone, and Jane steps back, fingers still curled around the edge of the door. "Explain to me, Maureen. Who was your first crush at the Academy, what did I wear on our first day of orientation, who did I sleep with that almost lost me my final grade?"
"You don't want the answers to those questions."
Maybe she did. Maybe she didn't. Jane tilts her head to the side, and studies her ex-teammate and partner. "What happens now?"
"Depends on you," Mo' echoes the gesture, watching her like a cat with prey.
A shiver traces down Jane's spine. And despite everything, she steps back again. "Come in."
"Thank you."
There's a moment, before Mo' kisses her, that Jane almost stops them. But this is Mo', and like Jane said, their relationship went way deeper than friends.

Dude. I can't believe how perfect this prompt was for my after-show angst...
