Megan leaned against the wall while counting down the second until the timer would go off. The sound of her toe tapping in the bathroom echoed off the white tile. The gum in her mouth had long since staled.
Shoshana peeked her head in for the fourth time in the thirty seconds. Megan glanced up to her and then back to the counter. Four sticks were laid neatly beside each other.
The oven time went off and neither woman moved for a short time.
Shoshana went to the counter, her eyes moving quickly across each of the sticks.

Shoshana couldn’t see how Megan could sleep knowing there was another human growing inside her. Crawling out of bed, Shoshana slid into her bumblebee slippers and headed for the kitchen. She opened up a bottle of water, closing her bloodshot eyes and allowing the cool liquid slid down her throat. She knew the reason for her restlessness.
She went into the living room and pushed play on the dvd player before sitting down in her favorite chair. She flipped the tv on and watched the black and white video of their baby, its heartbeat pumping through the surround sound speakers.
