wow. this just flayed me in the best way. it's heartbreaking and very in character for them -- I think the willingness to sell their own souls (and true loves) for a higher goal is something they share.

Thank you so much!! It flayed! (such a fun word, although not literally..)

I'm glad the characterizations sustained despite the emotional hell they're both stuck in... I wrote it, stepped back and tried to see if hate filled Janeway really worked.. but I think that if she failed on such a vast scale (although I haven't figured out that scale exactly, beyond Seven) without any real recourse to make it better her helplessness would just pin her beneath this immense pain and she would need to lash out however she could. Which perfectly fits with Laura's self-flagellating guilt... (Because Laura never hides from her choices? While Janeway hides behind starfleet and abstract principles? - just a thought..not sure how true it is as I haven't seen parts of BSG season 1 and 2 and Voyager's been a while for me)

Now if only I knew how they got there...

Thanks again! : )

very true. Janeway is certainly full of self-loathing -- just look at "Night." Laura is much more willing to do what it takes, but that doesn't mean it's any easier on her soul.

Yay beyond words!!! I'm so very glad this satisfied, particularly since it came from your idea!

Just wish the angst muses blessed me with a plot to back it up... still hoping to find it though...

so yay again! and thanks for the idea and the love! : )

Wow. The imagery is fantastic. And scarily accurate, Kathryn has a very well hidden darkness, and Laura has martyr issues. Loves

: ) Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed! I usually have a really hard time capturing them together, because they are both such strong complicated characters... but breaking them apart and watching them hurt was really interesting, and fun in a demented/angsty sort of way... (thanks again to radak for that idea..)

I've been blissfully gone for the holidays and have only just begun writing again, and reading and commenting. This was one dark, utterly delicious look into how they would both react to losing their lovers. Which is probably why they don't take on anybody for that job. DAMMIT.

Cheers on a wonderful fic. Write more J/R!

Well I know you're a J/R fan so I figured you were gone when you hadn't responded to this.. : ) I'm really glad it worked like I felt it, it was quite impulsive..

True, but on the other hand that makes our lives that much more fun doesn't it? : )

the other J/R I had been writing is stalled because I started hating my characterisations, particularly Six and certain Roslin scenes... Maybe I should go over it and at least make it a cohesive story so you can see what you think...

As for the longer version of this we'd been talking about, my inability to finish the other J/R made me hesitant to start on it (and you were busy because I really don't think I can do it alone) but the reminder made me want to read over my notes again so I'll see if any sort of productive comes out of me tonight...

Thanks again, utterly delicious is always good to hear : )

You know I'm available for a read-over or anything else you can whip me for. Just send it through email and I'll reply as soon as I am able. Six and Roslin is actually difficult to write; I usually do it with a handful of salt and detachment.

Take your time, as J/R deserves the best. I am most available after February 25 but I'm willing to run through fics with you for the time-being.

In addition, I did a remix of this story because it's just great that way! Hope you don't mind! There's just so much potential in radak's premise, don't you think?

*squee!*
