Title: Send Me A Postcard
Prompt: #91 - Prudence
Fandom: Grey’s Anatomy / Lost
Pairing: Addison / Juliet
Rating: G
Word count: 250
Spoiler: I am unspoiled, so anything other than the Lost 3.07 episode title (“Not In Portland”) is pure, dumb spec from a first-time poster (Hi!).

********

Dizzy fear wars with fascination as Addison closes the research binder. Fingertips trace the leather cover embossment - a branded caduceus, trapped by trigrams within an octagon. “This is… real?”

“Very. They’ll finance everything. We dreamed about this, Addie, all through undergrad. Making a dent in the misery.”

Off Juliet's earnest idealism - and her voice, still soft and sweet as candyfloss - Addison melts a little. “Yeah. I remember.”

“Yeah. So. Thoughts?”

“It’s intriguing, but beyond illegal. You could never run trials.”

“Well, not here, and not in Portland,” Juliet agrees. “They offered me a posting. Somewhere remote. Discreet.”

Her glasses come off; a fist nervously raps the logo. “Where, exactly?”

Juliet halfway smiles, shrugs.

“Idiot,” Addison mutters. “Could be Jonestown, for all you know.”

Juliet’s grin widens. “Hope not.” Her fingers light atop Addison’s clenched hand, stroking, gentling it open. “We could reject the Kool-Aid in favor of ju-ju.”

Addison’s brow arcs into a question mark, conveying multi-lateral bewilderment.

“You should come with me,” Juliet suggests. “Eight months, a year at the most.”

Shock prevents her from laughing. She squeezes Juliet’s tickling fingers, shakes her head. “Jules, no. I have patients - ”

“Refer them to Nancy.”

“I… yeah. Well. I have… a husband.”

Juliet whispers: “Sometimes.”

Addison’s rebuttal dries on her tongue. “Sometimes,” she allows. “When that stops being enough, I’ll let you know.”

Juliet nods, but lobs one last pitch. “Might not be Jonestown, you know. Could be a tropical paradise.”

Addison laughs. “Might be both.”
