Slamming the car door shut, Ashley leaned back against the hard surface and squinted into the sun. Spencer called, asked to meet at the beach. They had fought at lunch, loudly, publicly -- this time about commitment (or really, Ashley’s definition of it).
Obstructed sunlight and there, in front of her, was Spencer. It was impossible to tell which object was shining brighter. The blonde’s eyes flashed brilliant blue as she held out her palm. Wordlessly, Ashley slid her hand in Spencer’s and quirked a dark eyebrow, amused. Moving closer, Spencer let her gaze drift down to their entwined hands.
With a smile, Spencer slipped a thin silver ring off one of her fingers, briefly locking eyes before gently sliding it onto Ashley’s ring finger. Moments before Spencer’s lips moved in to possessively kiss, she made a final clarification:
“Wear this and remember that you’re my girlfriend now, Ashley. And that means you absolutely cannot, without a doubt, sleep with someone else, even if it is some “strange alternate universe where everyone sleeps with everyone else and you’re just following the rules”, or you meet someone who looks so freakishly like me you get confused, or Angelina Jolie. Only me.”
