Title:
Stronger Than That
“Sara?”
Catherine.
“Here,” I call, from under the Ford. I grit my teeth and twist, unscrewing a difficult cap.
I hear her footsteps on the concrete floor of the garage. I swab the drain for blood.
“Sara?” Her voice is softer, now. I lift my head slightly, just missing the muffler. I can see her squatting - although the word ‘squatting’ never really suited her - between my own knees.
“What’s up?” I turn most of my attention back to the car body two inches from my nose, start fighting with another cap - and then she touches me.
She lays her hand right between my legs -- That is not fair! - and starts to move it, very slowly, back and forth.
I try not to move. The last thing I want to do right now is squirm against her hand or spread my legs further to make this easier for her.
Come on, Sara, I think. Don’t let her get to you. I try to concentrate on what I’m doing, but I can feel myself getting wet.
Damn! I can do better than this. I’m stronger than this!
“Sara,” she says again, almost a whisper, “I want you-” but then I hear the click of the garage door.
“Sara, you in here?”
“Yeah, Warrick," I manage. "Under the car.”
Catherine's hand stops moving.
“I want you,” she continues, “to let me know if you find anything, okay?” and then she gets up and she walks away.
