The ice castle stood defiant in the face of the beginning of spring, the icicles that decorated it were melting, their sharp, deadly points now dull, their droplets hitting the muddy ground surrounding it.
What remained of the door now looked like something carved by an amateur. The entire foundation was undoing itself. Slowly. No doubt some of would still be there a month from now.
From a distance, Elsa (and Anna, not far behind) watched this once pristine, unholy creation unravel. She was not saddened by this (no longer maudlin either, the effect of the wine from earlier had gone from her head, leaving her wondering why she'd come here in the first place) but somehow, relieved.
She would not destroy this thing herself, but rather, leave nature to take care of it on its own terms. Watching it now, it was almost...pitiful.
Behind her, Elsa hears panting, the splatter of mud, signalling that Anna had finally caught up. At her side, she gives Elsa a (halfhearted) glare, her cheeks flushed. "That hill...was really...high...you know."
Elsa looks awkwardly away, her braid messy and askew (done as an afterthought).
The moment was gone, and seems that Anna sensed this, because there is guilt in her eyes now, her bottom lip pursed as it always was when she troubled.
"I'm sorr--"
"No, it is fine," she cuts her off gently. Elsa's already apologized so many times. It wouldn't help if Anna started to do it, too, unnecessarily.
