Aurora waited.
Deep in the forest beyond her castle, was a place that for three months had been protected day and night by the palace guard.
The moon was full and bright in the sky.
At midnight exactly there was a crack. Then another. It had grown and grown and now it was time.
Fracture lines spread out over the porcelain white of the egg shell.
"Please," Aurora begged to whatever powers would listen. "Oh Please." She was shaking and a tear rolled down her cheek. There was a hole in her heart and her soul. It still hurt. Mulan dying had devastated her beyond measure.
Now maybe the damage would start to heal.
A hand pushed out of the cracked shell. It broke. It came apart at the pressure from within.
Aurora gasped softly.
Naked and disoriented Mulan emerged from the egg. Aurora rushed forward and pulled Mulan into her arms. After a few seconds Mulan hugged her back.
"I was gone. It was dark," Mulan said quietly. "It was empty." She pulled back and looked Aurora in the eyes. "What did you do my love?"
"What I had to."
"Magic," said Mulan. "Magic always has a price. What terrible price did you pay?"
"Later," Aurora held her close and tight like she would never let go. "I love you, I love you so much. I promise I'll never stop telling you that."
"I love you," Mulan replied. Their lips came together and the terrible hurt started to mend.
