The club lights playing over Rachel's cosmopolitan created a temporary blue-on-blue intense enough to make her drink fluoresce. She played idly with the stem as she sat half-turned from the bar, one eye on the rest of the room. She hadn't cruised a place like this since Prague. Here in New York, the women were sharper, more intent on finding something specific than just relaxing. Rachel knew she cut a lonely figure, sitting by herself in her jeans and black tank.

Leaving her drink mostly unfinished, she pushed away from the bar and descended into the sunken dance floor. If she thought she would be able to open up a pocket of space with the intensity of her expression, she knew the truth now. Bodies pressed in on her from all sides, constant skin-on-skin as she pushed through the heavy crowd. The rhythm there was a deep bass throb, heat and sweat mingling freely.

Rachel made a straight line for the back booths the moment she emerged from the dancers. Her comm clicked on and Sydney’s voice flooded into her ear. "Ready?"

"I have the mark. I'm ready," said Rachel. She had prepared the persona she needed and used it immediately, sliding into the booth farthest from the floor. The woman already sitting there looked at her suspiciously. "You looked lonely. I figured I could be lonely over here too,” said Rachel. She held out her hand. "I'm Allison."

The other woman seemed momentarily amused, but took it. "Lucy Diamond."
