New toys and a Firefly canon research question

Jan 12, 2006 19:16

So I'm sitting on my bed in my jammies surrounded by my Fray graphic novel and my Serenity DVD and Visual Companion which came in the mail today. Also on the bed: two notebooks, one with notes related to Action Films, genre theory and spectacle and the other littered with random thoughts regarding the Inara fic. To the side of the bed: a massive ( Read more... )

fan stuff, research, writing, firefly

Fray graphic novel? racing to find what this is

I have the comics. There's a book?! Or did they just put all the comics together? Guh! Why am I clueless about this when I absolutley love Fray?

Speaking of Fray, I didn't notice Fray's axe until I saw Serenity again the other day. That thing sure gets around.

It's the comics collected in a book.

Indeed. Joss does like his continuity, doesn't he? Makes sense why there's so much fanon that River is a vampire slayer.

Hmmm. This is my only River icon. Weird.

Whew! I thought I was totally missing a new book and wondering what rock I've been under to be that out of touch.

It's never mentioned what planet the Training House is on, but your Visual Companion has the names of the Alliance planets in it. From reading/watching the deleted scenes, I gathered she was still out on the Rim someplace.

I didn't think that they ever told us what planet it was and I also gathered that it was on the Rim somewhere. I guess I can just go and pick a planet then, eh?

Luckily I only have to change one word of the already posted fic and have yet to write the scene that takes place at the Training House. Of course everyone who's already read the prologue now knows that I was briefly mistaken.

I think you're going to have to wing it on this one; everyone related to Firefly seems to be holding their cards close to their chest. Which, in the case of certain actresses, would be a fine place to be.

Oh, I'm enjoying making it up. It's just weird because of the uncertainty of being "Joss-ed"--now I know what it was like for everyone writing fic while BtVS was on, sort of.

I'm glad I didn't start until the show was over -- I don't like to go against canon, so it would have thrown me for a loop.

the Companion training house that Inara was at in the time between the series and the film was NOT on Sihnon
I realized that the other day when I was watching the deleted scenes again. I guess I didn't actually email you and point that out though did I? oops.

Are you saying that the comics are already out in graphic novel form? I though that didn't happen till the end of the month?

Different comics, my sweet. Joss wrote a short series of comics about Fray, a future Slayer and they are now collected in a graphic novel.

Okay, good. I hate to think I might have missed something Firefly related. :)

Oh my poor tortured femme. *pats shoulder ala Anya OMWF*

Joss does have that habit, of not telling us things we really, really want to know. Like, for example, what the heck happened with Buffy and Angel when they visited each other NOT in Sunnydale and NOT in L.A. Will we ever know? Bastard. Wonderful, wonderful bastard.

True. But I imagine it gave the B/A people fodder for fic like the way that the fade to black in "Chosen" did for the Spuffy people.
