New toys and a Firefly canon research question
So I'm sitting on my bed in my jammies surrounded by my Fray graphic novel and my Serenity DVD and Visual Companion which came in the mail today. Also on the bed: two notebooks, one with notes related to Action Films, genre theory and spectacle and the other littered with random thoughts regarding the Inara fic. To the side of the bed: a massive pile of printed out fanfic upon which is placed "Fan Cultures" by Matt Hills. Fangirl geek, that is me.
Question: From reading over the script and the deleted scenes, it is becoming clear to me that the Companion training house that Inara was at in the time between the series and the film was NOT on Sihnon. I don't believe that they ever tell us where it is. Does anyone know or am I going to have to make up a planet name for the fic? I'm going to go and check my Serenity comics now also. Good thing my apartment is so littered with scraps of canon.[/snerk]
Another thought: There are few things I'd like (in a fannish sense) more than new Firefly/Serenity canon. At the same time, it's weird knowing that that means that most likely much of what I'm writing in my fic will be totally Jossed. Because I'm writing a backstory for Inara and from what I get from what both Joss and Morena Baccarin have said, they seem to know such things as WHAT THE F HAPPENED THAT MADE HER LEAVE SIHNON IN THE FIRST PLACE. Ah well. It's just interesting because I've mostly only written for closed fandoms and it's...unsettling how we don't even know if this one is closed or not.
