It’s A Kind Of Magic…

By Elizabeth Fox.

Theresa Russo was used to the house being empty by now. Her husband had missed his wizard powers too much and had taken the kids with him, all except Alex, who was currently at full wizard camp. She wasn’t sure how it had happened and she didn’t much care.

She had only recently been feeling up to facing the world again and had come to find a part-time job here, at Waverly Catarium. She brushed her long curling brown hair out of blue-brown eyes and approached the desk, aware of her soaking skin and grey dress, the dress now clinging almost uncomfortably.

“Welcome to Waverly Catarium.”

The woman who addressed Theresa was younger than she was by about 4 or 5 years and she seemed completely open and friendly, rich brown eyes accentuated by long darker brown hair. She was wearing a vet’s uniform and seemed happy, comfortable at her work and good at her job.

“Fritzie, stay.”

The woman addressed herself to the dog who huffed and flumped back down, it’s cute little pug face flat on the floor, tongue hanging out expressively.

“You must be Theresa?”

“Yes… I… wait, how did you know?”

“It’s kind of what I do…”

The woman shrugged easily.

“I’m Arya by the way, Arya Dubrovnik.”

“Pleasure to meet you Arya…”

“You too Theresa…”

The woman paused.

“Would you prefer to work with paperwork or the cats?”

“Cats.”

The answer was lightening quick and Arya laughed, softly.

“I thought so.”

“You guessed?”

“Yes.”

Theresa smiled a little.

“Arya… are you by any chance… a wizard?”

“Yes.”

Theresa smiled warmly at that.

“I thought so…”

“How did you…”

“I used to be married to one.”
