The Rules & Timeline
Everyone may submit up to three prompts, but will only have to write one story. Writing more than one story gives you brownie points from your recipient and from your friendly ficathon mods, who won't ever complain at there being more female-centric fic.
Two of your requests must be from the list of official fandoms, with no crossovers. The third request may either be a crossover, or from the fandom of your choice. Consider it your wildcard entry. You must offer to write at least two of the official fandoms, and you must request stories from at least two of the official fandoms.
Fics must be a minimum of 1000 words. There is no maximum. Please be sure to have your fics betaread prior to posting. (Ficathon mods are not available for betareading purposes, nor are we able to find you a betareader. We will, however, put a post up for betareaders and writers to find each other.)
Gen, het, and femslash (as well as background slash) is all acceptable; however, the story should still retain the theme of celebrating canonical female characters. Therefore, we do not allow genderswap stories. We also do not allow RPF/RPS or incest fics.
Please note during sign-ups that an ampersand ('&') designates a gen prompt, and a slash ('/') designates a relationship-based prompt.
You will be asked to list characters you want. Please be sure to list a reasonable number for your writer, who is allowed to include any other characters he or she wishes to write.
Potentially Offensive Prompts: Do not submit prompts that relate to any characters behaving in what could be considered an offensive manner regarding sexism, racism, homophobia, and other hot-button issues. Also, no character-bashing or pairing-bashing. Your mods are very anti-bashing.
Prompts considered to be in a gray area will be edited by the mods to remove potentially offensive material, and you will be notified via e-mail of the edit and reason for it. If a prompt is deemed to be definitively offensive, we will contact you and ask you to submit a different prompt.
Prompt/Comment Editing: Once your prompt is posted, it is considered final.
Defaults: We understand that sometimes there are problems with RL that get in the way of ficathon commitments; however, defaulting means that we have to scramble for a backup writer. If you are going to default, please do so by one month before the due date. The default deadline is April 1, 2009.
Defaulters will not be allowed to participate in any future
femme_fic ficathons. (Yes, we have a list from last year.)
Posting: The community is currently set to moderated posting. When you finish your story, please post it to the comm. Stories will be released from the moderation queue as soon as all ficathon entries have been turned in. (Yes, this is our incentive for getting all stories in as soon as possible.) This way everyone gets their story simultaneously, instead of some people having to wait longer than others for their fics.
Posting Guidelines:
1. Put everything but your header behind a cut-tag.
2. Your header needs to include, at a minimum, the title, author, recipient, betareader, prompt chosen, rating, and any warnings. Anything else is candy-coated author's note sprinkles on top of the ice cream sundae of your fanfic.
3. Put a subject line containing the title, fandom, pairing (if necessary), and rating on your story.
Please note: If your story does not meet these three basic criteria, we will and ask you to re-post it.
