Mission accomplished

This weekend my dad came to visit.  He drove me back on Friday and stayed until today.  He came to help with some home repair tasks.  I'm most pleased that we are now 3/3.

1+ The parking area in the back needed to be leveled out and we had new gravel delivered.  It was a terribly rainy day on Saturday but my dad and I hauled gravel around and re-graded the parking patch.  Now my car won't sit on an incline.  Somehow between last year and this year, the "hill" got worse and we ended up with a left to right slope (as in the driver's side was uneven to the passenger side, not front to back incline).  FIXED (with some gravel to spare).

2+ My dad also looked at the kitchen faucet/taps.  We decided to get a new one since there seemed to be a tiny leak somewhere.  Now I have a sweet faucet with a pull out spout that can shoot 2 different flows of water.  Hooray.  No more stinky wet bar towels behind the faucet to catch the water leak.  FIXED.

3+ At some point, our doorbell stopped working.  Partner found the doorbell unit and as it turns out, it needed new batteries.  easy FIXED!!

Total cost of gravel + faucet?  ~ $375  Not too bad.  Though not great when we have to buy a newer car.  Anyway, I've been winging about 1 + 2 for months.  I'm very pleased.

WTF moment:  re: 1+  So have parking for 1 car and a tiny fit for a second car (but not really).  When my dad and I pulled in Friday night, the military guys next door parked a car in our not-second spot.  This meant my dad had to park his minivan elsewhere so I directed him to the area behind a neighbour's house.  They don't have a car and it's more like an open space.  He left it there Saturday while we worked out the gravel area.  This morning when we got up, neighbour had moved his tent (which was in his backyard - no one uses it) ONTO THE GRAVEL (aka my parking spot, my car wasn't there since we wanted the gravel to set).  The tent was squatting on my parking patch!!??  After my dad moved his minivan, the tent disappeared.  Was this his passive way of saying, 'you park in my  not-spot, I squat on your land'?  Strange.

+++ bought a mini-Hallowe'en costume for my dog.  She looks ridiculously cute.  I'll take pictures on Friday and post them here so you can have a laugh too.

++I just realized November is Narewrimo.  Last November, I used narewrimo to kickstart my dissertation writing.  This November I'll be writing my last chapter.  Amazing.
