Question about older women and pregnancy

Delaying babies 'defies nature'

Do older mothers 'defy nature'?

I'd like to know everyone's opinions about this topic, namely putting off pregnancy until after the age of 30. I've heard from word of mouth that it is dangerous to a woman's health to delay having the first kid until after she is 30. How true is this statement? Is there substantial data available that either backs up or refutes it? How real is the 'biological clock'? I've tried to search for more information, but it's hard to find. Perhaps I didn't search well enough? In any case, I would appreciate having everyone's opinions on this.

On the same note, assuming that the claim *is* true, and taking into account that corporate culture is stacked against a woman who wants a successful high-flying career *and* raise kids without a support system in the background (or just plain want to spend more time with her children than a high stress job would allow), how do most women get around this? Do they:

- Take a calculated risk and put off having kids until they have the time and money?

- Try to find a SO who would be the stay-at-home partner (or enlist a family member like parents/in-laws/grandparents and miss out on personal time with the kids)?

- Say fuck-you to their careers and have their kids earlier?

- Find ways of guaranteeing a pregnancy later in life by freezing their eggs or some such method?

Have any of you been in this situation or thought about what you would do if you were someday?

Thanks in advance for your input!
