Well, we went to have the 20-week ultrasound and... the technician couldn't be absolutely positive. We were in there for a very long time and finally the woman running the machine said she could only look for another minute or two. Up to that point it had been impossible to tell the sex of the baby. Apparently legs and umbilical cord were getting in the way and there was just no way to tell. Finally, at the very last moment, the baby moved around and we got a "better" view.
"Do you want me to guess?" she asked us.
Of course we said yes. Anything is better than no idea at all. So she said 85% guess it's a girl.
Good enough for us! That meant it was time to register. I honestly had no idea Babies 'R Us had so much stuff. And, this being our first, we need ALL OF IT! Goodness, who's going to buy it all? I hope our families are feeling generous.
Anyway, exciting news! I wanted a girl. I know, I know, girls are harder to raise, cost more, blah, blah, blah, but oh well! (No offense to any females reading this!) My pastor said "Uh oh. You're in trouble. Watch out for your heart and your wallet!"
He was just kidding, right?
------------
Fast forward a week and it's July 3rd. Our church, along with several others in the West Ohio Conference, have partnered with some churches in Russia to help them learn about youth ministry. A group of twenty or so youth and adults arrived this week, two of which will be staying with families from our church during the three weeks they're here. Actually, two nights they'll be at our house.
So we had a BBQ at our church and then went to the next city over and watched the fireworks. It was a lot of fun! We spread out blankets and ran our bare feet through the grass. Everyone was talking and laughing and it was just a good time. The fireworks were great, too. I'm looking forward to learning a bit about their culture and their church. "Foreign" people are fascinating to me, I must confess!
Well, I suppose I'd better go get something accomplished. I was supposed to spend the entire day doing second edits to my new story, but alas, I haven't touched it yet. So that's where I'm headed - across the room to the comfortable rocking chair with my blue pen and the rest of the day in my hands.
